Last Christmas my parents blessed our family with a very generous present: a trip together to southern California. My sister, Anna, and her husband Shaun live in San Diego. We'll be spending a few days with them. My brother, Joel, who is attending EWU will join us a few days into the trip. It will be a blast watching our three kids (16, 14, and 12) experience Disneyland and other amusement parks and zoos for the first time. Soon we'll be basking in the sun. Bring it!
Making the trip all the more enjoyable for me is the fact that Al Weiss(left), newly appointed President of Worldwide Operations for Disney's theme parks and resorts, is also a champion for church planting in America's urban centers. As Vision USA's chairman he is attempting to raise 300 million dollars over the next 10 years to help compensate for the rapid failure rate of churches here in America. According to a World Magazine article 2,500 churches die here every year. Perhaps Mr. Weiss, 51, is a modern day Joseph, joining God by helping fund this new wave. Interestingly, his father was a church planter!
